He rattled the bucket that was half-full of coins now. “Give a few francs for a hero of France,” he said in his most pleading and whining voice.

The man didn’t take the spyglass from his eye but spoke quietly. “If that man can turn his airship around I’ll give a thousand francs. France will be the first country in the world to build a real flying machine. We will all make our fortunes.”

“So ten francs now will be no problem,” the boy said and rattled again.

A coachman leaned forward and whispered in the boy’s ear, “This is Mr Moulin. He has factories all over Paris. Your master will have a thousand francs if he turns that machine and sails against the wind.”
